Antonio Corradini, Endymion

This statue was made for Zaccaria Sagredo, the most important collector in Venice in the eighteenth century, and it was praised as “one of the most beautiful things” by Montesquieu, the philosopher and connoisseur. Corradini was perhaps the leading marble sculptor in Europe of his day; Peter the Great was among his patrons.
